POUGHKEEPSIE NOV 20 11 30 AM 1911 N.Y Mrs. B.O. Tilden 291 Westminster Road Brooklyn, N.Y. [Nov. 20, 1911] 101 Main, Vassar College. Dearest Mother - It is but 7:40 and I’m bathed, dressed and breakfasted, - ready to do History. How’s that? We haven’t had much doing but work this week - the only break in the routine was the death of HelenTaylor, 1913 - Prexy’s niece. It was very sad though inevitable. Day before yesterday I had a letter from Edith Elizabeth Taft-Harmon. Better late than never. Edith, my dear - it was very sweet and acknowledged my gift. At last! that’s off my mind. I’ve ordered a dancing suit - skirt, waist and bloomers - $6.25, but i think probably I’ll be able to pay for it out of what I have - unless I use my present finance to other advantages. I broke one of Teddy’s cups the other day and am having one made for her like it - that’s the only thing that worries me - I’m not at all sure what that will cost. You asked about my [dopes] - faithful is no word for it. I’ve worn the atomizer half-out, I’m sure - and have to blow my nose more than ever - 38 halfs in the wash last week! I hate the old hair-tonic though I am using it. It does not lessen the grease! I wash my hair and then using that it’s hopeless in two or three days and without it, the niceness lasts almost a week. The stuff for my back is great! I’ll be able to have a “full-back” picture taken by the time I land home. That’s a reference to the picture of the “Vassar full-back” in the Vassar numbers of the Yale record. Much decollete! This week will probably be jammed full for I want to get work ahead for the days I’ll miss. Have you written Mrs. Lillinghast yet? She’s the acting lady-principal in Lady Kendrick’s absence - if you want to know her official position. Went down-town to a parish tea at the Church of the Holy Comforter yesterday played much Grieg and much Macdonell. Have some dear things to play to you. Must stop and get busy. Love to Dad and the little folks! 4 days more! Yea-a-a-a-a-a-a!!! Muriel. Sick and out of college from Thanksgiving until the first of the year - All work to be made up!
