Poughkeepsie, May 8th, 1860. Mrs. Sarah J. Hale My dear Madam: Having been temperaly indisposed since the receipt of your favor (of the 30th ult with enclosures) must be my appology for delay- ing my answer to the kind terms in which you are pleased to advert to my efforts for the promotion of the education of the young women of our Country. I am honored in finding my own views so much in harmony with the sentements found in the Editorials of the Ladys Book, and will avail myself of an early opportunity to secure the Biographical Dictionary fee to which you have alluded to aid me in the sphere of that departments of knowledge &c. In regard to the details, plans, organisation &c of "Vassar College" I deem it premature to present to the public any thing further than what has been already communicated in those articles fur- nished you by Prof. Jewett. I shall be very glad to see in the Ladys Book such suggestions as your mature reflection and practical knowledge of the subject may from time to time prompt you to make. It will also give me much pleasure to be favored with your communication at all times when conveniant. Very truly & Respectfully Your obedt Servt M. VaSsar 33 ,12-
