Biographical Note

Hannah M. Parkhurst’s Boarding and Day School for Young Ladies was one of many private schools in nineteenth-century Newburgh, NY, and is listed in city directories for the 1860s. An advertisement in the 1864-65 directory mentions that, "Miss Parkhurst has had seven years of successful experience in the care of Boarding School in the State, besides several years of teaching in the best schools in Massachusetts." Nothing further is known of Miss Parkhurst or the school; it did not appear in the directories after 1869.
