Processing Information

The original listing was completed in 1942 or 1943. The list was presumably updated to include the 1945 accession. The last known update was a contents check and retyping of the list done in 2007.

Acquisition Information

Barbara Levy donated the bulk of the material in 1939 when she was a freshman at Vassar. She gave a second smaller accession in January 1945 (marked with and asterisk in the container list). The gifts originally formed part of the Lucy Maynard Salmon Collection of Historical Materials.

Custodial History

The materials in this collection were gathered by Jessi Isidor Straus, the U.S. ambassador to France (1933-1936) and grandfather of Barbara Levy, VC 1942.
