Administrative History
The Vail Brothers Poughkeepsie photography studio appears to have been in business for at least the last two decades of the 19th century. The brothers were Alonzo H. Vail (1855-1929) and J. Watson Vail (1849-1922).
TopScope and Content Note
This collection consists of two large photograph albums. One includes photographs of Vassar College and appears to be circa 1889. The second album also includes images of Vassar (many of them duplicates from the first album, but with some additions); however, the bulk of the second album consists of images of Poughkeepsie. Of special note are a series of photos of the construction of the Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge, ca. 1887-1888.
