Abstract
Cut Me Up: Transitions brings together works from each of the published issues of Cut Me Up that demonstrate how artists have responded to each other’s work and each curatorial prompt. These responses create both short-form and extended dialogues, or conversations between multiple works. The exhibition also features pieces that incorporate and respond to multiple artworks, including those that reconfigure the magazine itself as an object or incorporate several works into three-dimensional assemblages.

Throughout these works, recurring elements emerge, amplifying their original meanings or becoming something entirely different within a new context. Some works echo one another through shared compositions, with one piece nearly mirroring another. Others completely deconstruct the original, mining it for colors, textures, or forms. Landscapes evolve into portraits, which, in turn, become backdrops. Artists transform two-dimensional reproductions from the magazine into three-dimensional forms, which are then flattened again for reproduction in subsequent issues.
