[Between Sept. 1876 and June 1880]
My dear sister Swan,
I rode home last evening from the Bull's Head concert with a youth who gazed at the stars and the ring around the moon, leaving me to be sole entertainer. The result is this: I am obliged to recline gracefully on my downy couch (of straw) for the rest of the day. I have positively declined all invitations to visit classes to-day, and I receive but few visitors; but if^you should be inclined to visit my boudoir during the fifth period, and should, at the same time, bring your brilliantly lucid and thrillingly exciting physiology notes, you would bestow benefit and pleasure upon
Yours lowly
Emma C. Hartman.
