Endless Bummer: VC Student Sit-in, part 1

Video file
Date
1971-1972
Description
Silent, personal camera footage of scenes from the two-week sit-in in Main Building, a protest against the termination of several faculty members' contracts as well as general questions about academic freedom. Begins with a protest-related musical event in front of Main Building, students coming and going from the north wing of Main Building, and sitting on the steps of Main. The next scenes seem to be from the ground breaking ceremony for the Terrace Apartments, which happened in February 1972. The film goes back, however, to the April 1971 protest, including scenes of students and some faculty gathered for the protest in front of Main Building. Some of the older men visible in the footage may have been the students' fathers; Sophomore Fathers Weekend was on April 23-24. The final footage is an interview with Jackie St. James (VC 1974)
