[Oct. 9, 1011]

Dear Lady-Mother -
I can only write a wee little note as it’s terribly late (I’ve been doing history since 7:30!), but I wanted to tell you I received the check ).K. My! I sure was glad to get it, for that very afternoon, I smashed my glasses - the nose-part, just as I did last summer - I got Dot. Phillips to lead me quickly down-town to an optician's. He said that he couldn’t mend them again, but that he’d five me a new gold spring for a dollar, so says I “Trot it out!” and he trotted. Then I paid for my furniture ($4.50) and bought some buttons for my white skirt, this statianry and my Physics book. That fixes up all I

actually owe except $1.00 to Helen French for buying my Phil. ticket (dramatics) for me. Dr. Griggs has ordered some music for me and still have an Economics book to buy, but I think my $3.00 will cover the first [tus] and I have still to order the last-named.
I sang in the regular choir this morning- substitute, of course - but I hope they’ll use me regularly soon.
Harmony is hard-as-all-get-out! I struggle in its mysteries and flounder despairingly in its depths, but I love it just the same.
My cold, I’m sorry to say, still hangs on. It’s gone partly up into my nose now so perhaps it will go away soon. I took a mouthful of Dr. Theller’s medicine without an apparent result so I haven’t been to her again. Nearly everybody is done up nowadays anyway so don’t worry about me, will you? Poor little Ted Corey is having an awful time with her nose - she runs races with it most of the time.
All the halls gave [stunt]-parties for their Freshman Friday night - if I

weren’t so many I’d tell you about it - it was just the customary kind, Senior Parlor Opening, the biggest event of the year next to the dance comes next Saturday. I shall probably wear my blue-dress. Oh, by-the-way, speaking of the dance, reminds me, Paul frankly admitted ‘twould put too big a hole in his pocket to come on for it - so that’s over. I’m rather glad he can’t in some ways and then again - I’m not. Good-night, maman - I’m so tired Be good to yourself - I’m awfully glad about the chairmanship. Much love from a weary
    Muriel.
Please ask the little ones to write me.
I’ve just written Dad.

These two totals just happen to Tally for besides the above as I said some uncounted change and besides what’s on the other side I’ve spent 65 cents on a “Beowulf” and numerous other things.
