Description
1961 revision of the silent film written, directed, and shot in 1931 by Vassar graduate Marvin Breckinridge (VC 1927), a self-taught filmmaker. The original "She Goes to Vassar" was a silent film, following a freshman (Shirley Ewald, VC 1933) through the course of her first year at the college. Footage of Founder's Day 1931 is included toward the end of the film. This version was remastered with a music soundtrack in honor of Vassar's Centennial in 1961 by Esther Chevlen. The music was arranged and performed by Clair Leonard. Also in the film are students Katharine Ziegler (VC 1931) and Katherine McLean (VC 1933). Alums and administrators featured include Harriet Sawyer (VC 1907), Cornelia Raymond (VC 1883), Dean C. Mildred Thompson, College Physician Jane North Baldwin, President MacCracken and his wife Marjorie, and trustee Raymond Guernsey. Professors include Lilian L. Stroebe (German), Winifred Smith (English), Woodbridge Riley (Philosophy), Anna T. Kitchel (English), James Baldwin (History), Ruth Wheeler (Physiology and Nutrition), E. Harold Geer (Music), Mathilde Monnier (French), Elloise Ellery (History), Edna Carter (Physics), Alice Belding (Physical Education), and Herbert E. Mills (Economics).
