      <head>Biographical Note</head>
      <p>Helen Corliss Babson was born on August 19, 1881 in Gloucester, Massachusetts to Fitz James and Carrie Augusta Babson. After graduating from Vassar College in 1905, she stayed on first as a tutor, then as assistant to the Lady Principal from 1906-1909. In 1918, she received her master's degree at the University of Southern California. In 1927, she became the principal of Eagle Rock High School in Los Angeles, California. After her retirement in 1945, she began pursuing her interest in poetry. She had one book published and several poems printed in various journals. She died on January 2, 1970.</p>

      <p>This collection includes an engraved Phi Beta Kappa pin; a notebook of typescripts of Helen Corliss Babson's poetry, including some loose drafts; and her published book, <emph render="italic">Tide Rhymes</emph> (1958). The book, the pin, an 1905 Vassar event card, and her 1962 prize-winning typescript are dated; the other materials are not.</p>
