[24. Nov. ‘39]
Dear Nathan,
Based on prior experience, I agree that the will should be altered. Taking into account that I must pay back 15,000 fr. in mortgages, which comes to about 10 dollars monthly interest, let’s set the monthly payment to Eduard at 55 dollars. Hitherto it has been about 65.
The remaining modifications, however, should be made as if the monthly payments to Eduard amounted to 60 dollars, because otherwise the disbursements to the others would become too low.
The present assets may just barely suffice to make these payments. Unfortunately I had to spend quite a lot on relief work, such that the capital is growing slowly or not at all. This is simply necessary because of the times.
I’m sorry that you and the gentlemen of Maas’s office have so much work to do for me. But this is hopefully the last time. A meeting will hardly be necessary as the changes seem to be clearly set forth in the present text. (But do visit very soon.)
Cordial greetings, yours,
	A. Einstein.
P. S. We must undertake to repay the mortgages. I shall send the money as soon as I receive word from N. York. The mailing should probably come from the cooperation.
