8 March 1945 Dear Nathan, Even though you are so overburdened, here’s a brief note regarding the conditions in Switzerland, on which my brother-in-law allusively reported. A while ago a law was pushed through under the protection of censorship by the government there, under the harmless title “Protection Against Unfair Competition,” or something similar. My brother-in-law alleges that this law was designed to secure a hideout in Switzerland for the German chemical industry again, just like after the last war. At the same time, a press release was also launched recommending that young people study chemistry. I think that these things fall more or less within the field you are working on and it should be easy for you to sift out the genuine material and form your own opinion. With many cordial greetings, Yours, A. E. P. S. You will certainly also find Ziff’s book interesting. Except the important economic problem is unfortunately obscured by those well-known American prejudices. [TLS. On embossed letterhead: “A. Einstein, 112, Mercer Street, Princeton, New Jersey, U.S.A.”]
