Otto Nathan 121 West 11th Street New York City 4 November 1938 To Professor Albert Einstein 112 Mercer Street Princeton, New Jersey Dear Professor Einstein, I spoke with Attorney Maass this morning. After another conversation with the Swiss Consulate’s attorney here, Mr. Maass considers it inappropriate to establish a trustee fund or a corporation without the counsel of a Swiss lawyer who can examine matters on location. The Swiss attorney residing here had pointed out to him that the laws of Switzerland regarding mortgage law and particularly tax law in the individual cantons and cities are so diverse that close examination of the matter is necessary. We agreed to write Attorney Guggenheim a detailed letter and to inform him of our plans and to ask for his approval. Mr. Maas will draft this letter today and forward it to me so that I have it tomorrow morning. I shall send the letter to Switzerland, provided you do not inform me by telephone that you do not wish it to go out. I would consider it proper that you send another brief telegram to Guggenheim or Mrs. Mileva E. in which you communicate that a detailed letter is on the way. Whether you should say furthermore that you are basically positively disposed in this matter, I would like to leave to your discretion. Kind regards, Yours. ON:lg [TLC. Handwritten correction.]
