Otto Nathan 121 West 11th Street New York, N. Y. 19 June 1939 To Professor Albert Einstein Morton’s Cottage Nassau Point Peconic, L. I., N. Y. Dear Professor Einstein, I received this morning from the lawyers the enclosed copy of a letter from Guggenheim in Zurich. You will gather from it that the payment of 5,000 Sw. Fr. on the first mortgage must be made by July 1st at the latest. As you already expressed your approval of the payment of this sum weeks ago, and as the check must go out, at the latest, day after tomorrow—Wednesday—on the “Queen Mary” in order to be in Switzerland on time, I paid that amount out of our special account so that the letter can be sent out on time. Regarding the remaining content of the letter, I shall negotiate with the lawyers in person as soon as possible. Particularly also about Guggenheim keeping the building management books, etc., which he was not instructed to do, of course, and which we—as you perhaps recall—wanted to avoid in order to prevent further expenses being incurred. I would be grateful if you would return the enclosed copy to me. I hope that all of you have meanwhile settled in well in Peconic and am, with kind regards to all, Yours, Otto Nathan ON:lg Encl. [TLC]
