17 September 1934 Dear Dr. Nathan, Thank you for your compassionate words. Everything over here is arranged for enjoyment. But that will never happen. “She” took too much of me away with her. They say time heals. I don’t believe it. Even so, one lives on and does one’s duty or what one thinks that is. At the beginning of Oct. we are coming back. I have Margot here with me, otherwise I couldn’t stand it. She is magnificent, for that I am grateful to Providence.— Do please read the enclosed notes. Please advise me. To whom should I turn in order to help Dr. K. to get invited to deliver some lectures? The compensation can be very low, perhaps it would even work without any. Princeton would be very suitable. Or do you know of some other university that could be considered? [ALS] Dr. K. is a third cousin of ours. He was formerly an “unaware Jew”. There were so many of those in imperial Germany. We shouldn’t let everyone like that pay for it; one can’t proceed in so severe a manner. Most cordially and truly Yours, Elsa Einstein. [Verso.]
