Letters, manuscripts,
speeches, poems, and other items, primarily resulting from an official connection
with Vassar College, written by Vassar students, faculty or staff, or by persons of historical
and cultural significance.

Correspondence, diaries, notebooks, manuscripts and drafts, memorabilia, artwork, publications, and photographs relating to Bishop's personal and professional life. Also, letters, minutes, contracts, and financial records from her teaching and publishing activities, 1943-1979; manuscripts, typescripts, drafts, revisions, and fragments of her poetry and prose writings, 1929-1979; Vassar student notebooks, travel diaries, notes from her 17-year residence in Brazil, and family information, 1931-1977; manuscripts, typescripts, articles, essays, and poetry by or about other writers, especially Robert Lowell, 1925-1979; and printed poetry, prose, reviews, and articles by or about Bishop.

The collection contains material related to Elizabeth Cady Stanton's work for women's suffrage, abolition, temperance, and other social causes. Includes family and professional correspondence, biographical and autobigraphical material, transcripts of her speeches, and photographs. Also includes material by others, such as her daughter, Margaret Stanton Lawrence, about the women's movement and Stanton's life and career.

Letters, notes, receipts, dispatches, and some facsimile reproductions of documents pertaining to political and cultural events of the 18th and 19th centuries, including the French Revolution. Signers include Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI, Johann Gottfried Von Herder, Helmuth Graf von Moltke, Mozart, Jean Paul Richter, August Wilhelm von Schlegel, Johann Strauss, and Robert Walpole.

Biographies, autographs, correspondence, diaries, maps, photographs created by and relating to Matthew Vassar, founder of Vassar College.

Includes manuscripts, notes, diaries, clippings, certificates, deeds and photographs; but of particular note are the letters Clemens wrote to his family describing his early adulthood as well as the development and progression of his writing career.

An artificial collection of materials documenting the history of Vassar College, collected by various departments of the Library over several decades. There are also some materials on Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, the Hudson Valley, students in general, and other colleges.
