Local History

A collection of account books relating to the Blodgett family, primarily describing household affairs and expenses. The majority of the books were kept by Katherine Blodgett Hadley (VC 1920), two of the books were kept by Minnie Cumnock Blodgett (VC 1884), and the final book is undated and entitled “Gregory and Vail Hay Book” and inscribed with “From the [Dear?] Library, Fishkill Village.”

This collection includes personal and professional correspondence, diaries, account
books, and other materials relating to the life and career of Cyrus Swan, both before
and during his time as a trustee of Vassar College.

Letters and legal documents regarding Loyalist residents of Dutchess County and Poughkeepsie, NY, during and immediately after the American Revolution; transcripts and descriptions of materials by Albany, NY, dealer Pierre and Scropes, Inc.; photocopies of original documents.

Photographic prints, negatives, contact sheets, and ephemera relating to Eric Lindbloom's photography of the Hudson River Valley of New York State.

Records compiled by Genevieve Lamson, Director, include correspondence, application forms for positions with the Project, and drafts of chapters from its history of Dutchess County.

Journals kept by Lucy Skeel, 1864, Fannie Denniston, 1865, and Ella Weed, 1868-1869, while attending the school. Denniston's journal also reports on a boat trip to Poughkeepsie and a visit to Vassar College grounds.

Material relating to Jasper Parrish and his involvement with the Iroquois peoples, particularly in New York State.

Material relating to Koempel's work
as a sociologist and a professor at Vassar College. Of particular interest is the
data she compiled relating to education and housing in Poughkeepsie and Dutchess
County.

An artificial collection of letters,
diaries, account books, land grants, deeds, wills, and other historical materials
originally established by the History Department at Vassar College.

Collection of maps, charts, atlas
pages, and illustrations depicting various regions of the globe ranging
from the 16th to 20th centuries, with a particular focus on the United States and New York.

Materials relating to the National Women's Political Caucus, the Women's Political Caucus of Dutchess County, and the Tri-State Women's Political Caucus, 1971-1974. There are also some materials from the Women's Center of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., 1972-1974, and other miscellaneous groups working on women's rights.

The collection consists primarily of photographs taken by American photographer Rosalie Thorne "Rollie" McKenna (1918-2003) that document life and events at
Vassar College during the 1950s and 1960s, including contact sheets, negatives, and prints. It also includes photographs taken by
McKenna of Springside National Historic Site, Matthew Vassar's former estate in
Poughkeepsie, as well as correspondence with the National Park Service.

This collection consists of
administrative and financial records, correspondence, and photographs created by
Springside Landscape Restoration, a non-profit organization dedicated to the
preservation and maintenance of Springside--a United States National Historic
Site and the summer home of Matthew Vassar (1792-1868). Publications and
writings about Springside and its designer, landscape architect Andrew Jackson
Downing (1815-1852), as well as records related to Springside from its 20th-century
owners, the Nelson family, are also included.

This collection consists of two large photograph albums of images of Poughkeepsie, including Vassar College.

Deeds, mortgages, bonds, insurance papers, agreements, wills, complaints, letters, accounts, cancelled checks, leases, and other items concerning estate and business matters of George Booth, James Booth, Charles Vassar, James Vassar, John Guy Vassar, and Matthew Vassar, Jr.

This collection consists of artwork, correspondence, printed ephemera, photographs, and publications created by or related to the Elverhoj Colony of Artists and Craftsmen (1912-1934) and its founding members, particularly A. H. (Anders Hansen) Andersen.
