The collection consists of a draft of Alison (Murphy) Conner's book , published in 1930, concerning her experiences in Ireland accompanying her father on a naturalist expedition.

Correspondence from John Burroughs to Clara Barrus and Barrus' journals, written from 1901 to 1924, spanning the years in which she was acquainted with Burroughs. Also, scraps of notes or published articles written about or by Barrus.

Photographic prints, negatives, contact sheets, and ephemera relating to Eric Lindbloom's photography of the Hudson River Valley of New York State.

One scrapbook, one diary, and a number of letters and manuscripts relating to Orton's education and his family. The scrapbook contains clippings of Orton's writings about his early explorations of South America, with annotations presumed to be by Orton himself.

The collection contains botanical illustrator Jeanne Russell Janish's original paleontology drawings from a class at Stanford University and her original drawings for by Roxana Ferris (Berkeley, University of California Press, 1970). Also included are two oil paint sketches by Janish of Vassar College's Chapel and Library and Chapel.

Includes 53 original Burroughs
journals as well as a typescript of the journals prepared by his granddaughter,
Elizabeth Burroughs Kelley, and another typescript prepared by his literary
executor, Dr. Clara Barrus. In addition, there are manuscripts, sketch books,
scrapbooks and correspondence, including letters to Burroughs from Edith Rickert,
Walt Whitman, and others; as well as letters by Burroughs to family, friends,
colleagues and readers. The bulk of the correspondence is to and from his wife
Ursula and son Julian, but other correspondents include Georgia Avery Kendrick,
Clara S. Reed, Minnie and Orlando Rouland, James M. Taylor, Mary W. Whitney, and
others. Also included are published and unpublished materials and photographs
relating to Burroughs.
