World War, 1914-1918--War work--Red Cross

Records concerning the Vassar Relief Unit's their work in France during and after World War I.

Letters, manuscripts,
speeches, poems, and other items, primarily resulting from an official connection
with Vassar College, written by Vassar students, faculty or staff, or by persons of historical
and cultural significance.

The collection contains
correspondence, writings, photographs, and clippings related to the life and career
of American classicist and Vassar College professor Elizabeth Hazelton Haight (1872-1964).

The Elsa Butler Grove Collection contains correspondence, typescripts, printed materials and photographs. The most notable portions of the collection relate to her service in the Baltic States and work with the American Red Cross and the Vassar Unit in France during World War I. There is also material related to the proposed establishment of an archives at Vassar College, miscellaneous printed material, and some biographical material.

This collection contains records and printed ephemera collected by Gertrude (Spaulding) Bartelme (VC 1915) during her service with the American Red Cross Bureau of Refugees in France towards the end of the First World War.

Letters from Ruth Cutler (VC 1912) to her family, and four letters from Elinor Prudden (also VC 1912), who traveled with Cutler. The letters document Cutler's travel by ship to France and her service there with the Red Cross. Prudden’s letters are to Cutler’s family describing the circumstances of Cutler’s death from pneumonia.
