Dear Dr.
We are landing in a few hours. If I have ever done wrong in my life, then I have done penitence for it during this trip. (As if one could miss it!)
I should have been with the children long before this, they were in affliction and cried out to me, and I stayed firm!

Wir landen in einigen Stunden. Wenn ich in meinem Leben Unrecht getan habe, dann habe ich es abgebüsst auf dieser Reise. (Wenn man so was säumte!)
Ich hätte längst zu den Kindern gehört, sie waren im Unglück u. riefen mich, und ich blieb hart!

That could drive me mad. The self-reproaches are just as bad as the worries I have for the child. Why did I act like that? Yes, why?
How these children mean everything to me.
A Berlin physician has been with her for the past week. I summoned him there from Princeton. He flew. He must have somehow intervened successfully! For otherwise she would no longer be with us. Now I have to keep that doctor there. Shall I succeed with that? Perhaps with very great material sacrifice. I would do it.—
Would you forward the enclosed letter? The gentleman forgot to sign. I don’t know his name. He sent to me, on board ship, a big crate of red

Darüber könnt ich verrückt werden. Die Vorwürfe sind ebenso schlimm als der Kummer, den ich um das Kind habe. Weshalb handelte ich so? Ja weshalb?
