Dear Nathan,
I thought about how, in my view, the problem of Mileva Einstein’s official relationship to the cooperation could be arranged most simply. It could write roughly the following letter to Mrs. M.

At the suggestion of Prof. Einstein, we submit the following proposal to you:
We authorize you herewith for the time being to assume from us the management of the building at Hutten Street 62, in particular to collect the rents, to pay off the legal taxes for us, make the mortgage interest payments, etc. You receive for this management an annual compensation of 600 fr. You submit to the c. a report on the receipts and disbursements at the end of each quarter year.
As Prof. Einstein has to make regular payments for the support of his son, in order to avoid unnecessary money transfers, we are agreed upon his suggestion to proceed henceforth for the time being as follows. We lend to Prof. Einstein the remaining rental surplus for the support of Mr. E. Einstein. Prof. Einstein has obligated himself to pay out to us the equivalent of this amount on the basis of your statements of account.
We request your immediate reply to this proposal, which should simultaneously serve as a power of attorney.

If you and Mr. Maas, resp. his people, agree with this, one could send her such a letter in German. I have not sent out the money for the Zurich lawyer as yet, ‹because Mr. Leidesdorf does have access to my money. I shall naturally send the check immediately, if I am asked to do so.› I am waiting for instructions on which address it should go to and how many doll. it should be made out for. I must also send a surplus, that stays put in the bosom of the c.—
I had to bother you again. If all of you want to do this business differently than proposed here, I have nothing against that either. The main thing is that it should be settled soon.

Ich habe mir überlegt, wie nach meiner Ansicht das Problem der offiziellen Beziehung von Mileva Einstein zu der Cooperation am einfachsten geregelt werden könnte. Diese könnte an Frau M. etwa folgenden Brief schreiben.

Auf den Vorschlag von Prof. Einstein unterbreiten wir Ihnen folgenden Vorschlag:
Wir ermächtigen Sie hiemit bis auf Weiteres die Verwaltung des Hauses Huttenstrasse 62 für uns zu übernehmen, insbesondere die Mieten einzuziehen, die legalen Abgaben für uns zu entrichten, die Hypothekenzinsen zu zahlen etc. Sie erhalten für diese Geschäftsführung eine jährliche Vergütung von 600 fr. Sie erstatten am Ende jedes Vierteljahres der C. Abrechnung über Einnahmen und Ausgaben.
Da Prof. Einstein regelmässige Zahlungen für den Unterhalt seines Sohnes zu entrichten hat, so sind wir, um unnötige Geldverschiebungen zu vermeiden, auf seinen Vorschlag hin übereingekommen, es bis auf weiteres folgendermassen einzurichten. Wir leihen Prof Einstein den aus dem Mietenüberschuss verbleibenden Rest für den Unterhalt von Herrn E. Einstein. Herr Prof. Einstein hat sich uns gegenüber verpflichtet, auf Grund Ihrer Abrechnung uns das Aequivalent dieser Summe jeweilen auszuzahlen.
Wir ersuchen Sie uns umgehend auf diesen Vorschlag, der zugleich als Vollmacht dienen soll, zu antworten.

Wenn Sie und Herr Maas bezw. seine Leute damit einverstanden sind, könnte man ihr einen solchen Brief in Deutsch senden. De‹m Chek› Das Geld für den Züricher Anwalt habe ich einstweilen nicht gesandt, ‹weil ja Herr Leidesdorf Verfügung über mein Geld hat. Ich sende aber den Chek natürlich sofort, wenn ich dazu aufgefordert werde.› Ich warte auf Anweisung, an welche Adresse er gehen soll, und auf wieviel Doll er lauten soll. Auch muss ich ja einen Überschuss senden, der im Busen der C. liegen bleibt.—
Hab ich Sie schon wieder plagen müssen. Wenn Ihr die Sache anders machen wollt, als hier vorgeschlagen, habe ich auch nichts dagegen. Hauptsache ist, dass es bald geregelt wird.
