The bearer of this letter is my dear friend Dr. Otto Nathan, formerly at the German Imperial Ministry of Economics, currently employed as Professor of Economics at Princeton University. He has seen to assisting exiled German intellectuals with more dedication than any other man I know. He did it silently and under difficult conditions. As he is also well informed about the general political situation, I consider it desirable and justified if you were to grant him some of your very valuable time for a conversation.
Rabbi Wise told me about the recent meeting at your place. I felt glad and proud that in America the Jewish destiny lies in the hands of such strong and prudent personalities. How important it would have been if that had also been the case in Germany in recent years.

Er hat sich um die Versorgung exilierter deutscher Intellektueller mit solcher Hingabe gekümmert, wie kein anderer mir bekannter Mann. Er tat es in der Stille und unter schwierigen Verhältnissen. Da er zudem über die allgemeine politische Situation gut informiert ist, halte ich es für wünschbar und für berechtigt, wenn Sie ihm etwas von Ihrer so wertvollen Zeit für eine Besprechung schenken.
