Dear Nathan,
The milestone birthdays in our life lead us to recall our common experiences. Viewed objectively, it was mostly not pretty, and the experiences with the goyim and Jews, with the left and the right, were rarely pleasant. But the bonds between us became all the more firm. It was like a miracle that we always immediately understood each other without many words and agreed on the position to take. If one doesn’t follow the herd and just consults one’s conscience, one knows what must be done, whatever the reverberation may be. This is still the best way, however skeptically one may think about the small way in which one can be useful.
Brandeis—Hutten St. corp.—Breslau congress—Rosenberg—our dear black brothers in Washington—isn’t it a colorful whirl in retrospect? On the occasion of your birthday, let us remember all these things and many others in a happy mood, in undiminished hope of a fruitful continuation in the same style.

Die runden Jahreszahlen in unserm Leben laden dazu ein, sich an das gemeinsam Durchlebte zu erinnern. Schön war es ja objektiv betrachtet meistens nicht, und die Erfahrungen mit gojim und Juden, mit den Linken und Rechten, waren selten erfreulich. Aber umso fester wurde das Band zwischen uns. Es war doch wie ein Wunder, dass wir uns immer ohne viel Worte gleich verstanden und uns über die einzunehmende Haltung klar waren. Wenn man mit keiner Herde läuft und nur sein Gewissen fragt, weiss man, was man thun muss, wie auch der Wiederhall sein mag. So ist es immer noch am besten, wie skeptisch man auch denken mag über das Wenige, was man nützen kann
