My Dear Friend
Yours of the 13th is here- and also a line from my neice- saying the three beautiful volumes were received at Rochester- I should have been glad to feast my eyes on the sight of them- but in this last press of getting out our huge Vol. III- I cannot do more than look at and think
That I want her to carefully read every word of the books before I get home- so that she may learn the
true history
I cannot tell you how grateful to me is the fact that the sons of my venerated friend and teacher- Wm. L Garrison thought of me- as one of their circle of friends to whom the wonderful story of their Fathers life, should be presented—- I shall value the books beyond measure- and the love and friendship of the sons that prompted the gift in no less degree-
Very sincerely & gratefully

My Dear Friend
Yours of the 13th is here- and also a line from my neice- saying the three beautiful volumes were received at Rochester- I should have been glad to feast my eyes on the sight of them- but in this last press of getting out our huge Vol. III- I cannot do more than look at and think of- anything else- So I am writing my niece- who lives with my sister in Rochester- and who is the daughter of my youngest brother- J. Merritt Anthony- who was with old Capt. John Brown at Oswatomie In the Kansas Border Ruffian days- and who served through the entire four years of the war as Captain in the Kansas 7th Cavalry- -
That I want her to carefully read every word of the books before I get home- so that she may learn the true history of those olden days- The children- the college youth of today are left wholly ignorant of our immediate past history- while they know all about ancient Greece & Rome-
I cannot tell you how grateful to me is the fact that the sons of my venerated friend and teacher- Wm. L Garrison thought of me- as one of their circle of friends to whom the wonderful story of their Fathers life, should be presented—- I shall value the books beyond measure- and the love and friendship of the sons that prompted the gift in no less degree-
With best love & best wishes to each and all of your family circles- I am
Very sincerely & gratefully
