Wednesday morning March 26
VASSAR COLLEGE A.D. 1861
Dear Fambulee,
This is the last letter you will ever receive from your eighteen year old relative, so I celebrate by using monogram, or rather, seal paper. I got the letter with the samples in it this morning, and

I think they are as pretty as can be! I am crazy to get them made. Mrs Whitlock has gone away to spend a week or so, thank goodness, and we’ll only be afflicted by the white [mouse] during vacation. Ella Ost is to be here as well as Mary.
Last night Polly and I went to Mr Elmendorf’s illustrated lecture on Venice. He was well enough

but his pictures were wonderfully beautiful. They were colored story opticians of buildings, paintings everything worth seeing in Venice and at the end there was a moving one which lasted at least ten minutes in which you rode in a gondola on the canals. It was the most charming sensation you can imagine. He paints the story-optician slides himself, and I certainly never saw more delicate and beautiful colors. Phyllis is going home with Polly, and Blanche is too for part of the time, but she may come here and stay with me till Monday. The trunks are all packed, and by Friday afternoon the house will be nearly deserted.
Farewell with lots of love
Peggy.

I think I’ll be wanting my hat with the pink roses on it, pretty soon.
