Dearest Ducky Daddles,
You have been very naughty, for I haven’t gotten a letter from you for a long time. I have just gotten one from sister and she says you are having gorgeous weather, and that she was going to have the neighbors in to dinner Monday night. Won’ that be nice?
Marrie asked me if I had heard about Booker T Washington and Roosevelt. I have, and I think Teddy is all right and the southern people acting in a perfectly idiotic way.
The way I happened to know anything about the business was that Mary Pratt very kindly lent me a copy of the Indianapolis News t’other day. Now all this leads up the fact that I think it would be great if you could sent me each week, either the Sunday Journal, or the Saturday News, what do you think about it my dear?
This morning I have worked like a Trojan. I donned five pairs of stockings, did some other sewing, washed eighteen handkerchiefs, and took a walk with Florence Lowry, her fiance, and her sister who is spending the day with
her. Blanche Lowry is seventeen, and has light hair which she wears in a great long braid down her back. She doesn’t look a bit like Florence, but is just as attractive. Sister said she bet Florence wouldn’t go through college as she is engaged, but I think she will, first because Mr Fulton wants her to, and secondly because he expects to stay four years at Harvard Law School. Yesterday he brought her a lovely picture and a cavalry sword to hang in her room, and they look thrilling.
I took two hours the
other day to pen an epistle for Mrs Sewalls eagle eye to contemplate. It was stupid I’m afraid by perfectly grammaterial Ha’Ha! I like best to write letters in which I feel at liberty to use a little slang once in a while. Please give my love to Mr Keifer when you see him. I have perfect slews of lessons to get for Monday and must get some of them now, so farewell daddykins.
With slews of love
Peggy.
