Dear family-

Typed transcription of page 1 of letter ………………
“As you Like It” proved a great success and I felt very dissipated for I saw it twice as I was an usher and so went to the dress rehearsal too. I don’t think it was as good as last year’s but that’s partly the [quality] of the play - it’s very long and drags in spots. Ruth Flanigan as “[Touchstone]” was perfect. She was really the best.
Lyman Abbott preached this morning, and was simply wonderful and so very practical. He’s to come again next Sunday too. He led Prayer meetings tonight, and added

a little to what he had said this morning.
Thursday [unreadable] in the middle of lunch I was surprised by a visit from Bob who stopped in on his way back to Tarrytown. He had been making out a path thro’ [through] the Berkshires for an automobile tour to take place next month. He had the perfect racer car outside, and offered to take me around in it, but I was forced to say “no!” - with sorrow! I trotted him round, and showed him the Library, and the chapel and the lake, others trotted Val and Caroline down to see him - Lilias was

out. He was very nice and funny, and a bit embarrassed at so many loose females!
Friday I served at a tea in Senior Parlor, and felt very gay and giddy. And tonight the head Commencement usher asked me to “ush” [“usher”] at Commencement and Baccalaureate Sunday, so I am cheering with joy.
Julia Searing has been here over Sunday, and is to stay till Tuesday. She asked for Jean.
The room question has been settled [calmly], and I think it will be all right.

Mrs. Atherton is here now - which is fun. [Lab.] is over, and we are so glad - four hours a week extra now. My course for next year, after much tearing of the hair, stands thus - Philosophy (required), [K] English, J English, Economics and [Handwriting]. Hope you approve.
I must stop. Lots of love. Had no mid-week letter and trust everything is OK in spite of it.
        Lovingly
            Marjorie
P.S. The granddaughters [unreadable] [sporty] on Sat. [Saturday] and had a picnic in the apple orchard. After they’d gathered us there, they ran a business meeting

in on us and elected M. [Chapin] pres. [president] [in place of] Mary?
