Biographical Note
Lloyd Peterson was a scholar of the life and work of the American naturalist, John Burroughs (1837-1921). In the course of his career, Peterson corresponded with Burroughs's granddaughter, Elizabeth Burroughs Kelly, about her grandfather. He also gathered research materials about Burroughs and his close friends, Carrie Staines Kellogg, wife of W.K. Kellogg, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Harvey Firestone. For several years Peterson edited and published the newsletter, The John Burroughs Trail.

This collection consists of correspondence and printed materials documenting Lloyd Peterson's work on John Burroughs, particularly his editing of the newsletter, The John Burroughs Trail.. Of particular note is Peterson's extensive correspondence from the 1970s and 1980s with Elizabeth Burroughs Kelley, as well as letters between Peterson and the editor of the Hamlin Garland Index, American literature collection, University of Southern California. The collection also includes a wide range of articles, photographs and other materials that Peterson collected in the course of his research on Burroughs.
