Dear Professor Einstein,
This morning Dr. Wolf was here to see me. He has made substantial progress in his business. Mr. Danzig and two other distant relatives have now stated their willingness to fill out the affidavit, provided you—as you have recently offered—express in a letter that in case of emergency you are willing to take Dr. Wolf and his family into your home. I told Dr. Wolf that I am contacting you and that you will be writing him a letter to that effect in the next few days.

Furthermore, at the advice of friends he has decided to register himself at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia as a graduate student in mathematics. He hopes to be able to earn his M.A. next summer. He has been told that, with the Quakers’ help, he could then be placed at a college. Housing there was made available to him; his living allowance also seems to be provided for. He now needs $250.00 for his tuition fees and asked me whether you or I, or both of us, could be of assistance to him in this. He naturally does not expect to receive the entire sum from us. Please let me know whether it is all right with you if we give him a contribution out of our fund, and please also let me know how much you are thinking of. I would consider $100.00 reasonable. Dr. Wolf is now trying to have his stay here extended as a visitor or student and only wants to immigrate after completion of his studies. His family is in England.
I hope very much that all his plans will work out for the best; I myself am somewhat skeptical on some points.

Heute frueh war Dr. Wolf bei mir. Er ist in seiner Angelegenheit erheblich weitergekommen. Herr Danzig und zwei andere weitlaeufige Verwandte haben sich jetzt bereit erklaert, das Affidavit auszustellen, falls Sie—wie Sie kuerzlich angeboten haben—in einem Brief zum Ausdruck bringen, dass Sie, falls eine Notlage eintritt, Herr Dr. Wolf und seine Familie in Ihrem Haus aufzunehmen bereit sind. Ich habe Herrn Dr. Wolf gesagt, dass ich mich mit Ihnen in Verbindung setze, und dass Sie ihm in den naechsten Tagen einen entsprechenden Brief schreiben werden.

Ich wuerde $100.00 fuer vertretbar halten. Dr. Wolf versucht nun, seinen Aufenthalt hier als Visitor oder als Student verlaengern zu lassen und will erst nach Abschluss seiner Studien einwandern. Seine Familie ist in England.
Ich hoffe sehr, dass all’ seine Absichten sich zum Guten verwirklichen; ich selbst bin in einigen Punkten etwas skeptisch.
