AAVC (Alumnae and Alumni of Vassar College) panel discussion chaired by President-elect Fergusson the morning of her inauguration. The speakers were Willa Baker (VC 1987), Maryellen Hadjisky (VC 1945), Helen King Ikeler (VC 1922), Judith West McCarter (VC 1962), Demetrios Papanikolas ( VC 1987), Mediera Meder (VC 1937), Katharine Forbes Erskine (VC 1911), and Richard Roberts (VC 1974). The general topic was the Vassar experience over the years. A question about world events during their years at Vassar garnered responses about the Kennedy-Nixon debates, Watergate, women's suffrage, World War II, the Great Depression, South African apartheid, and the nuclear arms race. Other topics included campus political and social activism, the reputation of Vassar graduates, student friendships, early coeducation, freshman hygeine classes, and smoking.
