Biographical Note

Gustav Dannreuther (21 July 1853 - 19 Dec 1923) was a violinist, instructor and founding member of the Dannreuther String Quartet. He was the son of Abraham Dannreuther and Sophie Fischbacker. His brother was the pianist Edward Dannreuther.

Ellen "Nellie" Morton Taylor Dannreuther (25 May 1858 - 3 July 1942), Gustav's wife, was also a noted musician. She was a pianist who performed on her own as well as with her husband. She was also an instructor, teaching privately and also for a period at Wells College. She was the daughter of Martin Taylor and Martha Gooding. Gustav and Nellie married 12 July 1882 and had three children: Walter Taylor Dannreuther, Martin Taylor Dannreuther, and Gustav Dannreuther, Jr.
