Women's History

A collection of handwritten letters,
formal notes, autographs, poetry, short writings, and lithograph portraits of
prominent nineteenth-century women authors, including Maria Edgeworth, Caroline L.
Herschel, Hannah More, Lydia Huntley Sigourney, and Lady Emmeline Stuart
Wortley.

Correspondence, clippings, notes,
speeches, interviews, photographs, manuscript and published versions of her
writings, other publications, bibliographies, and copies of historic documents
pertaining to materials on women's history. There are also family letters and
photographs, biographical materials, and miscellaneous items relating to Vassar
College.

Papers concerning her interest in woman suffrage and including letters from Anna De Baun, John M. Glenn, Norval D. Kemp, Henrietta W. Livermore, Caroline Ruutz-Rees, Anna Howard Shaw, and Vira Boarman Whitehouse, 1908-1917; one letter from Cutler to Livermore, 1916; two letters about Cutler from Carrie Chapman Catt and Norval D. Kemp, 1908-1916; clippings, programs, and other miscellaneous printed matter on suffrage work, 1916-1921; and manuscripts and typescripts by Cutler on rural life and people, 1906-1917.

Papers reflecting Pollitzer's interest and activities in regard to women's rights, particularly her work with the National Woman's Party

Three manuscripts: one from the book she edited on her maternal grandparents, , published in 1884; one undated manuscript article on Lydia Maria Child; and one address read before the Medford Women's Club on James and Lucretia Mott.

Letters with some manuscripts,
speeches, poems, and other items, primarily resulting from an official connection
with Vassar College, written by Vassar students, faculty or staff, or by persons of historical
and cultural significance.

Papers include manuscripts, galley
proofs, correspondence, speeches, chronological files, and subject files relating to
her publications. There are also subject files on women's issues such as affirmative
action, the Equal Rights Amendment, business opportunities, marriage, minority
women, women in education, employment, women in the Army, and health.

The Caroline Furness Papers consist
of correspondence, personal and professional papers, writings, research, and
photographs created and assembled by American astronomer and Vassar faculty member
Caroline E. Furness. Notable correspondents include Furness’s father, Henry B.
Furness; Vassar faculty member Mary W. Whitney; Kan'ichi Asakawa; Sakusaburo
Uchigasaki; Rose O'Neill; Vilhjalmur Stefansson; and other astronomers, including
Jan van der Bilt, Phoebe Waterman Haas, and Ruth E. Smith.

The collection contains
correspondence, ephemera, and photographs, mostly relating to Charlotte and Clara
Barnum's education and continued association with Vassar College. Also included are
materials related to Clarine Warner Curtis (VC 1888), a life-long friend and
correspondent of Clara Barnum, whose daughter, Virginia H. Curtis Milburn Robertson
(VC 1930), continued correspondence with Clara after Clarine's death in
1945.

Diary of Christine Ladd-Franklin,
Vassar College Class of 1869. Describes her experiences as a Vassar student, the
challenges of financing her education, and her early years of teaching before
beginning her graduate work in mathematics.

The collection contains material related to Elizabeth Cady Stanton's work for women's suffrage, abolition, temperance, and other social causes. Includes family and professional correspondence, biographical and autobigraphical material, transcripts of her speeches, and photographs. Also includes material by others, such as her daughter, Margaret Stanton Lawrence, about the women's movement and Stanton's life and career.

Slaughter's manuscripts on the history of women and Great Britain, as well as correspondence with Vassar College about her work.

The collection consists of drafts of several of United Nations representative and political activist Elvira Kush Fradkin's writings on disarmament, including a draft of the book . Also included are a photograph, newspaper clippings, two letters, biographical data on Fradkin, and a pamphlet on the disarmament conference.

Typescripts, illustrations, and proof copy of her book published in 1976; three chapters from an unpublished autobiography; and a bibliography of her work.

Correspondence, clippings, ephemera, speeches, manuscripts and research materials relating to Blatch's involvment in the suffrage movement.

Microfilm set of the Milholland Papers held by the Schlesinger Library at Harvard University.

Materials relating to the family's personal, professional, and political activities. The bulk of the collection relates most directly to Elsie M. Hill.

Translations and photocopies of three 17th century sources regarding Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia by Massimiliano Deza, Antonion Lupis and Benedetto Baccini.

Correpondence and other material documenting Wylie's work, health, travels, and family; as well as her friendships with Fanny Borden, Fanny Hart, Mrs. Nathan S. Hart, and Nina Katherine Hart; her career at Vassar College, and her relationship with Gertrude Buck.
